John Denver became a star with the folk-based songs he wrote, most of them located in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was raised in Roswell new Mexico, but was enthralled by Colorado. He later made his way to Aspen. Denver's iconic anthems for Colorado have been a major influence on many to move to the state. G. Brown of Colorado Music Hall of Fame, the curator of this hall of fame, said: "I don't believe there anyone else who has as much a connection to Colorado in the same way as John Denver." Denver was the initial Hall of Fame inductee in the year 2011. He has become the personification of the state to everyone around the world. Through my many travels, I've encountered many people who are not from Colorado. They will beg, "Oh John Denver!" when they hear that you are from Colorado. Brown declared. Denver's debut Top 10 hit as a solo artist after a brief period of performing with small folk group comprised of Take Me Home Country Roads co-written with Bill Danoff. Danoff initially wrote the song with Johnny Cash's music in mind, but Denver knew from the first moment he listened to the early versions that the song would be a big success. The singer recorded the song only a few days afterward when he performed it in front of an enthusiastic audience at Washington D.C.
